Lee Yip’s After Dark series draws from their personal experience with complex PTSD, offering a visual meditation on the first stages of healing from trauma. Created during solitary midnight walks through Seoul and Tokyo, the work traces the intimate, chaotic journey of reconnecting with one’s authentic self.
Photographed at intimate proximity and exposed with a handheld flash, each bloom is isolated against the night as colour flares and form slips between clarity and near-abstraction, turning flowers into metaphors for emotion. Both personal and universal, After Dark explores the courage required to confront overwhelming feelings and beliefs, reflecting the first steps toward self-discovery, acceptance, and recovery.
